Honey House

Honey House is a considered coastal retreat shaped by place, materiality and intent. Drawing on the enduring tradition of Mount Martha beach houses, the home balances robust masonry — selected for its durability, thermal mass and longevity — with classic weatherboards that echo the local vernacular. Designed as an inward-focused sanctuary, the floor plan responds carefully to site constraints, clearly defining zones while maximising natural light and thermal performance. Internally, a strong masonry spine anchors the home, softened by warm timber accents and a restrained palette of earthy tones that create a profound sense of calm. Concrete blockwork, timber and stone come together in a tactile, quietly confident interior, while native landscaping gently softens the architecture and grounds the home in its coastal setting. Conceived as part of Ongarello’s series of refined speculative homes, Honey House elevates the traditional development model through enduring materials and thoughtful detailing — capturing the relaxed, resolved and timeless spirit of Mount Martha.
